Are you a master storyteller? Want faith, race and power at the center of the Public Square? IndyCAN seeks a dynamic, justice-focused, communications guru and online organizer that can hit the ground running. This is a pivotal role that will shape the moral compass of Indiana and elevate the voice of marginalized people in the public arena.

This position will be responsible for all internal and external communications, including:

  • Shaping IndyCAN’s brand and messaging strategy
  • Leading all aspects of IndyCAN’s online organizing program
  • Strengthening IndyCAN’s internal and external communications across the state and developing organizing tools that move people to action
  • Leading communications efforts in support of state and regional policy campaigns to maximize press coverage and drive media outreach, as well as developing pitches for all external communications and developing and nurturing media relationships
  • Working closely with multi-faith, multi-racial clergy and people directly impacted by racial and economic inequality to bring a people-centered, faith voice to all internal and external communications
  • Training staff, clergy and volunteer leaders in strategic communication
  • Creating compelling and creative visuals to advance social justice (video, photo, art)
  • Ensuring all communications strategies are data driven, tracking performance metrics

Successful candidates will have led compelling communications efforts for grassroots, political, public relations firms, news media outlets, or other advocacy based non-profits.

You should be able to:

  • Work at campaign pace without sacrificing quality
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritizing work effectively on deadlines
  • Build strong relationships and pitch local and national media
  • Write great copy under tight deadlines
  • Draw on an intersectional analysis of racialization and other forms of oppression
  • Coach people of diverse backgrounds
  • Utilize digital online platforms like Salsa, HTML, CSS
  • Transform information into amazing, story-telling visuals (video, photo and graphic) and interactive executions, utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) and video-editing software (Final Cut, etc.)
